Don’t get me wrong. I like to help out friends, especially when it comes to anything electronic related. But almost always, when it comes to computers, it’s better to be in front of the computer. However, that’s not the most ideal in certain instances. And not being there is my biggest source of frustration, not towards the other person, but towards the fact that there are certain things you can do faster when the piece of possessed electronic-ware is in front of you (e.g. try telling folks where to find /HKLM/ in the registry).

Keeping information safe and sound typically takes a backseat for most people, until it’s too late, either from actual theft or lost laptops/usb drives. I always encourage the people I know in implementing some system of data encryption. With the growing trend of people owning more laptops, it is definitely easier to lose it or get it stolen, along with most of your sensitive and sometimes embarassing data you won’t want someone else gaining access to.
